August 2012 Newsletter

                            August,  2012

Welcome to all the new members of Western Dressage Association of North Carolina !!

There ‘s so much to do and we can’t wait to get everyone involved.  The WDAA is currently working on the rules for 2013.  In the meantime we want to help each other begin the journey with as many opportunities as possible to learn ways to use dressage and help our horses and our riding.

VOLUNTEER

In the next month we need to have volunteers willing to work together to make WDANC a truly active contributing organization.  Here are some of the opportunities:

  • Newsletter Editor
  • Committee member – education, funding, social media (marketing)
  • Horse of the Year Chair
  • Participant Program Chair
  • Local organizer

We all want friends to ride with and others to join us on this journey. All of us can be a “local organizer” -  finding ways to get the word out in our area, contacting show organizers and locating the instructors and clinicians who can advance Western Dressage.  If you’re interested in volunteering or have contacts you think would be interested in WDANC send names and contact information to info@westerndressageNC.org.  Print out the membership form attached to this newsletter and encourage new members.  Find places to post information about WDANC.  If you need flyers contact starspeakPat@hotmail.com.

          CLINIC OPPORTUNITIES

Gerd Heuschmann Symposium

We have been offered a rider slot in the clinic/symposium with the author of Tug of War and the video If Horses Could Speak, the German veterinarian and authority on equine bio-mechanics Gerd Heuschmann.  He is only doing one clinic in the US this year and only  5 riders will get to ride with him.  This is a rare opportunity to showcase western dressage and promote the discipline.  Demonstration riders will have two sessions with Gerd, strictly private, before the symposium then do one, possibly two demonstration rides during it.

If you are riding 2nd  level or above or have a made bridle horse and are interested in learning more about straightening the crooked horse and training for the welfare of the horse please contact Barbara Long,  336-838-3740, belong48@gmail.com.  Horse and rider must be working at a level that will show Western Dressage as a serious discipline capable of incorporating the principles of classical dressage.

For more information on the Symposium go to http://us-rha.com/heuschmann-symposium. For more information about Gerd go to http://www.gerdheuschmann.com/index-index-lang~en.html.

Louis Woods has offered to do monthly clinics at Star’s Peak Valley Ranch in Jonesville, NC if there is enough interest. For information contact Joan Howard, leejoanh@yahoo.com.

See http://www.mountainviewranch.net/ for more information about Louis. He uses dressage learned in Europe to develop horses who can work a cow and cows to give purpose to dressage horses.

Don’ t forget the monthly video clinics on HorseShow.com with WDAA Advisory Board Member Barbara Long.

Starting this month we will also be posting demonstration videos on the WDANC web site. Look for Trent Benton demonstrating the Clock from the WDAA web site.

All WDANC members can participate in the WDAA Social Corral, an online community with blogs, forums, picture galleries and a dedicated group for each state affiliate. This is our very own “home.” If you haven’t received an invitation contact info@wdanc.com
